Vacation Pink

My brother introduced me to a new artist (new for me, not sure how long he’s been painting). The idea of painting portraits in nontraditional colors isn’t new but it’s always interesting to see different artists’ versions of the method. Here is one by Francoise Nielly. More can be seen at http://www.francoise-nielly.com

I love portraits that convey believable emotion. I wonder if he photographed his subject first or just painted from something in his head or had her pose…

Lastly, I incidentally (or maybe subconsciously)bought some cheap lipstick yesterday in the same shade of this girl’s. I call it “vacation pink”.

Tattoos

I hear the city I live in, Richmond, is the 3rd most tattooed city in the country. I wonder, do tattoo shops submit censuses of their clients? Anyway, I see tattoos regularly. A lot of my friends have them. A lot of my friends don’t.

I recently suggested to my conservative father that he should get one. He’s a military physician though and says he is afraid of contracting Hep A. Shortly after, I revealed my nose piercing is from the backwoods of China. Yep, that China. Far as I know, I do not have any diseases as a result. I am probably a dissapointment as a daughter though.

I like seeing other peoples’ tattoo choices but could probably never commit to one. Maybe when I’m 60 and my life is all worked out/I don’t care anymore. Until then, I’ll have to stick with the slap-on, wash-off kind. Plus, those come with glitter.

There are a lot of tattoos that I think are dumb. But hey, if you want that Chinese character on your neck, you go for it.

There are a few that are cool though. Like this one:

“Abstract” foot tattoo

Since I have roughly four decades before I’m 60, I have a plenty of time to think about what kind of tattoo I’ll want. I know I DON’T want a: breast tattoo, ankle tattoo, face tattoo, or neck tatoo. So that narrows it down a BIT. Like I said, plenty of time to think about it.

Can’t believe I just wrote that much about tattoos.

Straw Hats in Segovia

Segovia, Spain is a hot spot of art, fashion, architecture and history. Lived near there for a little bit when I was too young to appreciate any of this. Thankfully mom kept me looking nice while we explored; she looking to expose me to greatness, me looking for the nearest Popsicle stand.

Currently in the market for a like this.

Fashion Quotes, Goggles,Tattoos, and Chicken Croquetas.

The following is a collection of things I just HAD to share with you all. Sorry.

———

“If you are not good at fashion it stresses you out and is complete torture for you, it shouldn’t be torture, just get an all-black wardrobe and call it a day.”

-Steven Cojocaru, fashion correspondent (what the heck is that? Am I one? )

Constanza Pascolato with another woman whose name I don't know. But they are looking stunning in all-black!

REAL QUOTES from kids I adore:

“Always wear an undershirt.” -Ben, age 10, check out his fashion style here.

“Wear shorts under pants in case you get hot”.

 -Calvin, (Ben’s friend), age 10

”Comfort. ” Charissa and Elsie, ages 11 and 7 respectively, on the most important thing about making fashion decisions.

In order from L-R, Charissa, Calvin, Ben and Elsie. The Fabulous Four. They don't care what they wear or what they look like.

TATTOOS.Well, just one really.

THAT is a tattoo.

CROQUETAS. Or croquettes but that doesn’t sound as nice.

Had these last night at Europa, located in Shockoe Slip in dowtown Richmond, Va. So perfect and so good, I have been daydreaming, literally daydreaming about them all day. Pathetic. Fantasizing about food. In my defense they are one of the things I strongly associate with my childhood and biting into a perfect croquette takes me back to days of living on ugly militar bases in Madrid, Spain back when life was all purple sweatsuitish, Disney princesses, and airshows.  I’ve enlisted a friend to make some by hand and we are going to even try a gluten-free version. Until then, I’ll be drooling. Here’s a potential recipe.

Croquetas. Imagine this with fresh paella and a lovely beverage. See? Yum.

Six Word Stories.

Story of my life...

Check out this very cool, on going art project started by a talented designer,  Anne Ulku. The project Six Word Stories began last year, originally inspired by Ernest Hemingway’s six word story: “For sale: baby shoes. Never worn.”

Now, it’s debatable whether Hemingway even wrote that or not but who cares! It such a good idea and the art work on the site is often so very stunning and always creative. Check our the project here and feast your eyes.

Picasso.

This is such a nice hat.

In case you just got over a terrible case of amnesia, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond is displaying a large collection of Picasso’s art through May 15. The collection is fantastic and I’ve already been twice. some of my favorite parts of the exhibit include photographs of Picasso. There was an especially good one of him in a striped shirt. Sadly, I was unable to sneak a picture of it. I did get this one of him sporting a hat I would never have guessed a man can wear. Maybe you have to be Spanish.

A rebel photograph at the VMFA's Picasso exhibit.
